When cultures clash: the West missed Russia’s resurgence as a global creator of meanings

Russia’s long overdue cultural resurgence on the global scene, itself a reflection of Western parochialism, should not be taken to signify an end to the valable contributions to an emergent, globally shared system of values the West can still offer. Even the specifically American liberal tradtition of political and ethical thought, particularly as exemplified by the work of Hilary Putnam, remains a rich source of political and ethical values a genuinely universal humanism will want to embrace and carry forward into the future.
